Native to Australia the Budgie has now become one of the most common parrots kept domesticly and with its low price tag makes it an ideal candidate for your first venture into budgie talking. Budgies have a fantastic ability to mimic humans from whistling to singing nursury ryhmes.
Training budgies to talk can be quick process but it all depends on the commitment from you and the individual bird. There are a few points to consider when training any bird.
- Training any bird is best done early in the morning when its at its most active
- Remove any distractions when training, inlcuding other people and animals
- Rewarding your bird everytime it speaks the way you want (positive reinforcement)
- Speaking in a high pitched voice also helps many birds to catch on to mimicing
Once you have got the right environment setup as described above, you then need to make sure you saying the same word or phrase each day making sure you reward the right behaviour and not anything else.
Keeping this routine going will give you the best chance of getting your budgie talking. Budgies quite often will learn to whistle first so if you can whistle a tune they are likely to pick up on that quicker. Once you've got your budgie talking the following phrases should be picked up quicker.
